Health and Safety Policies

Our family centre is a busy place and so to make your visit as enjoyable as possible we have developed the following policies for everyone’s health and safety.
Please take a moment to look them over.

  1.  To avoid overcrowding, families are welcome to attend a morning or an afternoon session once or twice a week.

  2.  The children’s programs are upstairs in the playroom and the adult programs downstairs.
Adults must accompany children in their care up and down the  stairs and through the building.
Running is for outside. Please encourage children to walk inside.

  3. When children are settled and feel comfortable in the playroom, parents and grandparents are welcome to join other adults downstairs for tea, coffee, a friendly chat or relax time, group discussion, workshops or special programs.
Please let a playroom staff know if you’re going downstairs or ask them if you’re not sure if you should.

  4. At Family Time (10.45 am and 2.20 pm) all parents and caregivers are asked to read and sing with their children.
Please bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to share at Family Time
    .
Children sit at the table to eat food. For health and safety reasons please don’t let
children wander around with food inside the building or outside in the play area.

  5. It is essential for parents or family members to stay in or around the building during the two hour session.
Family Centre is not licensed as a daycare so staff cannot be held responsible for children during an emergency.
It is important for us to know that all children are in the care of a parent or another designated adult.

  6. On all occasions during Family Centre programs, adults have full responsibility for the needs of the children in their care.
There is a washroom with change table on each floor.
Please remember to put used diapers in the plastic bag provided before putting in the garbage.
If your child needs to use the washroom when playing outside please come inside.

  7. So that other families and our staff here can stay healthy please do not come to the centre if you or your child have a cough, cold or are sick in any way.

  8. Strollers - for safety reasons we ask all parents and caregivers not to block the exit or pathways with strollers.
Indoor space is limited; we suggest folding your stroller if possible or leaving it outside locked to the fence.

Nannies and daycare providers please note:

    * We ask that you limit your visits to once a week.  For safety reasons the maximum adult-child ratio allowed in the playroom is 1-3 (one adult to every three children).
Your children are welcome to play in the yard outside and to use the bikes, riding toys and sandbox when they are available.

*We ask nannies and daycare providers to stay with the children in their care at all times, and to be responsible for their personal care,
to play with them and to interact with them at family time.

A Family Centre Membership fee of $25 per family per year helps to support our work.
We ask all care Providers to pass this request on to the individual families of children they are bringing to the centre
and to purchase memberships for them accordingly. There is no daily charge to use the family drop-in.

We appreciate your participation and cooperation
If you have other questions or concerns please feel free to ask any staff person.

Thank you and enjoy your visit!
